FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is my data sent to a server?
- No. All encoding and decoding uses JavaScript's built-in encodeURIComponent() and decodeURIComponent() functions in your browser.
- What characters get encoded?
- Characters that are not safe in URLs — spaces, punctuation, non-ASCII characters, and some ASCII special characters — are replaced with % followed by their two-digit hex code.
- What is the difference between URL encoding and Base64?
- URL encoding makes text safe for inclusion in a URL component. Base64 converts arbitrary binary data to ASCII. They solve different problems.
- Why did decoding fail?
- The input may contain an invalid percent-escape sequence, such as a lone % not followed by two hex digits.
